Title: Sections of bottles discovered in Oxford
Description:

Leeds has drawn sections of bottles discovered at various sites in Oxford and has noted any further information about either the bottle or the vintner learnt from the vessel and its stamp. Thus, there are some examples of the name of the vintner, the name of the tavern where the vessel was used, sometimes with a sketch or description of the arms of the vintner, date, details of the capacity of the bottle and other measurements of the vessel and sometimes a note of where the bottle was found and where it is preserved. Those drawings of sections of bottles that have been preserved in the Ashmolean Museum have the accession numbers recorded. There are also some tables listing further information about certain bottles identified by the stamp or vintner's initials, where Leeds has recorded very detailed measurements including the diameter of the collar of the bottle, the thickness of the neck, the depth of the bulge and the capacity. Some of the drawings are on treated linen and appear to have been used in Leeds' article on '17th and 18th century wine-bottles of Oxford Taverns' published in Oxoniensia volume VI.
