Reference: ETL/1/MED/2/1
Title: 'Oxford Taverns'
Description:

These folders contain detailed notes on particular taverns, The Mermaid, The King's Head and The Three Tuns, and on various lessees and vintners. Leeds made many of his notes from original records such as Oxford City ledgers, Oxford University college muniments lease registers and parish registers. There are also notes copied by Leeds from 'The life and times of Anthony Wood, antiquary, of Oxford, 1632-1695' who often referred to the taverns or particular vintners by name. Within these files are notes on the issuing of licenses to sell wines in Oxford and an account of a legal dispute between two vintners. The papers include a document from 1835-1836.
