The records of the Borough of Morpeth date from the twelfth century. They include two lengthy series of deeds, the records of the Craft Guilds and those of the Corporation from the time of the Municipal Corporations Act of 1835.

The records have been deposited in two parts

PART I consists of records deposited between 1962 and 1973 as follows:-

(i) Morpeth Corporation deeds, first series, c.1100-1835. Deposited November 1962. Reference: BMO/D1.

(ii) Morpeth Corporation deeds, second series, c.1283-1929. Reference: BMO D2/1-242.

(iii) Miscellaneous books and papers, deposited in November 1962 with additional deposits in February 1965 and February 1973. Reference: BMO/B/1-48.

PART II consists of records deposited in 1974 and those of permanent value retained at Morpeth:-

(i) Books and papers of Morpeth Craft Guilds, 1523-1920. Reference: NRO 989.

(ii) Records of Morpeth Borough Council, 1835-1972. Reference: NRO 990.
