Description:

The finding of John Waryn and others forming a jury at Castre in an inquisition concerning certain lands, etc. in Castre and Stamford, viz: that Thomas Brerle purchased them from John de Pantre lately dwelling in Castre and then died seised of the same, after whose death Thomas Brerle, as his son and heir, entered into possession and sold and alienated certain portions, and seeing he was on the point of death granted them to Thomas Wykys and John Lay, who thereupon entered into possession - on a condition that Elizabeth wife of the said Thomas Wykes and mother of the said Thomas Brerle should have the same for her life, and after her death the same to be sold to the best advantage, and the money obtained to go to the support of chaplains in the parish church of Castre to celebrate masses, etc. And the said John Lay seeing that the lands and tenements were going to great ruin and delapidation, with consent of the parishioners and neighbours, went to the said Elizabeth to incite and implore her to put the same in fitting state of repair, and thus fulfil the last will and declaration of Thomas Brerle.
