COVENANT and counterpart between Geoffrey de Picekworthe and Bernard Paston and Beatrice his wife, whereby the former lets on lease to Bernard and Beatrice for term of their lives, his capital messuage in Castre, and all his arable land with meadows and pastures in the fields of Castre, which came to the said Geoffrey by inheritance - the said Geoffrey to have that house situated through the great gate of the said messuage near the King's way to occupy while he lives, with free entry and exit through the said gates, together with the garden and surrounding walls, without obstruction by the said Bernard and Beatrice, and Geoffrey also reserves half the fruit growing in the garden called Orchard as well as the culture of 15 acres of arable land in the assarts beyond the brook. If Bernard and Beatrice should die before Geoffrey, the messuage, etc. to revert to the latter, nor shall Bernard and Beatrice sell, lease, mortgage or otherwise alienate the same. They shall also support all charges accruing to the same and keep in good condition the houses, buildings, walls, hedges and ditches at their own expense. And for this lease they shall pay a yearly rent of 32sh. and shall find to the said Geoffrey every year, for one month, honest support in food and drink, and a good chamber, with decent furniture and necessaries for his groom and horse as is fitting. To this agreement Bernard and Beatrice have taken their oaths on the Holy Gospels.
