Description:

Dolben's Wedding Anthem

In the heading the slightly imperfect name is Hughes (an alto solo in the ms. confirms this).

The heading refers to a song by Croft with words by A. Alsop - a copy of this song is in the Royal College of Music, London, ref. MS. 995. It has the bookplates of Sir John Dolben and of John Lucius Dampier; and it is stated that it was performed at Finedon in 1720 by Croft, Hughes, Freeman and Baker. But it is a later copy, for it is in the hand of Cuthbert Brass (see below), and is to be dated c.1750.

Date: 1720
Related material:

Royal College of Music MSS 108, 666, 994, 996, and 1090 were also owned by Sir John.
