Reports, notes and proceedings of local and works conferences at various companies, 1913, 1940-1983; printed proceedings of special conferences between the Engineering and Allied Employers' National Federation (later the Engineering Employers' Federation) and various unions, 1934-1964; minutes of the Works Safety Officers' Committee, 1938-1971; files relating to the participation of Alfred Herbert Ltd., Coventry, in the Coventry and District Engineering Employers' Association, 1909-1929; lists of local, national and Association of Supervisory Staffs, Executives and Technicians' / Association of Scientific, Technical and Managerial Staffs' conferences, 1913-1971; file of agreements, 1913-1958; papers relating to wage rates in Coventry, Warwick and Leamington Spa, 1940s-1960s; papers relating to the Coventry Toolroom Agreement of 1941 and the Coventry Toolroom Dispute of 1971, 1940-1981.

 

The Association was founded in December 1907. The minutes of its Executive Committee/Management Board from 1915, together with some other miscellaneous records, are kept in Birmingham. Written application to see them should be addressed to The Secretary, Engineering Employers' West Midlands Assoc., St. James House, Frederick Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 1JJ. A 3pp. descriptive note on these records was compiled by the Modern Records Centre in August 1974.

 

The records described in the following list principally comprise three files of notes of some 1,000 local conferences, 1940-54, mainly under the Coventry District Toolroom Agreement of 1941 and the relaxation agreement relating to the employment of women. For each conference the date, firm, unions and topic have been given.

The archive is partially listed. It is arranged by order of deposit (MSS.66, 66B, 66C ... 66K). The first deposit has been listed to file level. Box lists are available for MSS.66B, 66C, 66J and 66K.

The minutes of the Association's Executive Committee/Management Board from 1915, together with some other miscellaneous records, are kept at the headquarters of EEF West Midlands. Written application to see them should be addressed to: the Chief Executive, EEF West Midlands, St. James House, Frederick Road, Edgbaston Birmingham, B15 1JJ. A descriptive note on these records, made in 1974, is kept at the Modern Records Centre in its archive inspections' lists.

Administrative / biographical background:

The Association was founded in December 1907. It merged with the West Midlands Engineering Employers' Association (MSS.265) in 1984. The West Midlands Association now forms the largest of the Engineering Employers' Federation's thirteen regional Associations, with over 1200 companies in its membership.
