Historical Note

The Black Arts and Heritage Society began as a writers' group in W.Bromwich in early 1991. Its name changed from the Black Arts and Heritage Centre to the Black Arts and Heritage Company before becoming the Black Arts and Heritage Society. Its steering group met regularly at the Afro-Caribbean Resource Centre in Thomas St., W.Bromwich.

In June 1991 its address was 30 Hope St., W.Bromwich, but it soon moved to 47 Bull St.

The records in this collection cover a very short period of time but there is nothing to suggest that the Society did not continue to function after that time.
