The meeting was held to discuss flame-outs on the Mark 301 engine in service. The problem has been around for many years intermittently but the rate has risen steadily recently with nine incidents so far this year, which is the highest on record. A graph tabled by the Service Department illustrated this trend and the purpose of the meeting was to review evidence and decide what action should be taken to overcome the problem
