The document recites:- firstly, an indenture (21st. Dec. 1846) whereby, having rehearsed (i) PA 353/1/31, (ii) J. [I] Stowe's will (part (i) of PA 353/1/23's first recital), (iii) the sale by Samuel Carpenter and Henry Lea (both described as in PA 353/1/23), as trustees of J. [I] Stowe's will, of the property to W. C. Howell (described as in PA 353/1/23) for £970 at an auction held 23rd. July, [1846] - in consideration of £970 and 5/- paid by W. C. Howell to the trustees and T. B. Troughton (described as in PA 353/1/23) respectively, the trustees and Troughton conveyed to Howell three tenements in Fleet St. (one being known as the "George IV") with land (as described in PA 353/1/23's fifth recital) occupied by Howell, Patrick McLoughlin and Christopher Jones, subject to the rights of passage detailed in PA 353/1/31: secondly, a mortgage in fee (1st. Jan., 1847) whereby, in consideration of £600, Howell conveyed the premises to John [II] Stowe (of Sandford, Oxon., yeoman) in trust for sale: thirdly, a similar mortgage (12th. July, 1850) whereby, having rehearsed (i) the 1847 mortgage, (ii) Howell's payment of £100 of that deed's principal plus all interest, the mortgagor appointed the premises to the use of Charles Handley (of Allesley, Warws., farmer), whilst (in consideration of £500 paid by Sarah Garlick (of Allesley, spinster) to J. [I] Stowe's trustees, by Howell's appointment, and of 10/- paid by Handley to J. [II] Stowe and Howell) J. [II] Stowe and Howell conveyed the premises to Handley upon trust for sale to secure £500 plus £4/10/-% p.a. interest: fourthly, a deed (17th. May, 1861) whereby, having rehearsed (i) the 21st. Dec., 1846 deed, (ii) the 1st. Jan., 1847 deed, (iii) £500's still being owed - in consideration of £500 (paid by Stephen James Chew (of Fleet St., Coventry, victualler) to Garlick, with Howell's approval, for discharge of principal), and of £450 (from S. J. Chew to Howell), together equivalent to the £950 purchase-money, Howell appointed the premises to the use of (and, in consideration of 10/1 paid to Handley by Chew, Handley (at Garlick's appointment) conveyed the premises to) Chew with Alfred Dawson Lea (of Coventry, gent.) as trustee: fifthly, a mortgage (18th. May, 1861) whereby, in consideration of £500, S.J. Chew granted the premises to Garlick, together with the piece of ground sold to Richard Booth et al (now built upon and occupied by Chew, John Weston and Thomas Farr) at a redemption rate of £500 plus £4/15/-% p.a. interest: sixthly, S.J. Chew's will (19th. Feb., 1863) demising the premises to his wife Sarah: seventhly, S.J. Chew's death on 7th. Apr., 1865: eightly, the grant to S. Chew (sole executrix) at Birmingham of her husband's probate (9th. May, 1865): ninthly a transaction of 26th. May, 1866 (endorsed on the 1861 mortgage) whereby, having rehearsed S.J. Chew's will and death, and the discharge (on 17th. May, 1866) by S. Chew of the £500 plus interest, Garlick granted her the premises: tenthly, articles of agreement (31st. Mar., 1871) whereby, in consideration of the marriage of William Earp Reeve (of Coventry, coachbuilder) and S. Chew, it was arranged that the profits of the couple's Coventry and Coleshill (Warws.) properties should be enjoyed mutually and disposed of as they agreed or their successor decided.
