Mr French joined Morris Motors Engines Branch, Limited, in 1949 as a machinist engaged in gear cutting. From 1959 to 1966 he worked as a rate fixer and from then to 1970 as Chief Estimator. In 1970 he was promoted to Chief Project Engineer and from 1976 until the closure of the Coventry Engine Plant at Courthouse Green in 1982 was the Chief Planning Engineer.
