Recording of interview by Alan Lomax and Ewan MacColl of Harry Cox (HC) of Norfolk (b.1885) talking about his father's time as a farm labourer, poaching and singing traditional songs.

Track 2: Duration (min/sec): 4.05 Description of track: HC discusses his views on poaching and the law; feels discrimination against the poor is unjust and that there are two laws, 'one for the rich and one for the poor'.

 

Track 3: Duration (min/sec): 2.26 Description of track: talks about the decline in 'common land' where people could hunt and pasture cattle; the Norfolk Broads did not used to be owned.

 

Track 4: Duration (min/sec): 2.40 Description of track: describes his father's hard life as a farm labourer working 60 hours a week, 10 hours a day; HC worked as hard as this with very few days off (Good Friday afternoon and Christmas Day as well if you fed the cattle).
