The national Association was founded in 1855. This local branch was formed as a young women's Bible in Dec. 1981. A small hostel was opened at 67 Argyle Street in 1883, but was replaced by a larger building at 42 The Woodlands in 1894; this has since been extended, partly by the incorporation of a neighbouring house. The records were deposited by the Chairman of the Birkenhead Y.W.C.A., Mrs. I.F. Evans, in May 1983.
