He bequeathed his writings in the first place to the British Museum and secondly, if not accepted (as was the case) to the William Brown Library.

Administrative / biographical background:

George Hervey Garraway was born on the island of Dominica, West Indies, 9 Oct. 1846, the son of George Garraway, merchant. He lived for many years in Liverpool, being a member of the Liverpool Academy of Art and exhibiting in Liverpool Autumn Exhibitions, 1871-94. He was a member of the Society of Mural Painters and Decorators. In later years he resided at Florence, where he died 7 Oct. 1935.
