William Brown (1784 - 1864) of Richmond Hill, Liverpool, was born in Ballymena, Co. Antrim. He emigrated to America with his father as a child, but returned to England in 1810 and subsequently established the firm of Brown, Shipley & Co. He was M.P. for south Lancashire, 1846 - 1859, and presented to Liverpool the Free Public Library and Museum, opened in 1860. He was created a baronet in 1863. Sir William Richmond Brown (b.1840) son of Alexander Brown, succeeded his grandfather to the baronetcy in 1864. |
