Administrative / biographical background:

According to the Board Minute Book, 1893 - 1897 (see 353 SEL 1/8 above), p. 97, the Select Vestry resolved to purchase Grove Mount, Penny Lane, Wavertree, for use as a Convalescent Hospital. It was further resolved at a Select Vestry meeting of 23 Oct. 1894 that certain members of the Select Vestry "be appointed a Special Committee to take the necessary steps to prepare the Grove Mount premises for the reception of the children now located in Fulwood House". On 23 Apr. 1895 the Grove Mount Committee was appointed as one of the Select Vestry's general committees (see Board Minute Book, 1893 - 1897, 353 SEL 1/8 above, p. 198). This Committee appears not to have been appointed in April 1898 and at a meeting of the Workhouse Committee held on 17 May 1898 it was resolved that no independant or sub-committees for the management of branch establishments be appointed and that such establishments be under the control of the Workhouse Committee (see 353 SEL 1/9, p. 62).

Grove Mount was closed in 1908 (see 353 SEL 1/11, p. 275) and was eventually leased to the Corporation of Liverpool in 1913 (see 353 SEL 1/15, p. 321).
