Administrative / biographical background:

The earlier enties in the first volume of Workhouse Committee minutes (see 353 SEL 10/1) were made prior to the first meeting of the Select Vestry elected under the terms of the Liverpool Poor Law Administration Act, 1842 (see introductory notes above). The list of Workhouse Committee members given on the first page of the volume includes a number of names which also appear in the list of Guardians elected 25 Mar. 1841 (see introductory notes above, and Peet. Vol. 2 op. cit., p. 360, note 1). It is possible, therefore, that this Committee may have originated under the Board of Guardians elected in March 1841 or even under the Old Select Vestry dissolved in April 1841 (see notes above).

 

The Workhouse Committee was replaced by the Brownlow Hill Institution Committee in March 1914 (see Board Minute Book, 1914, 353 SEL 1/16, p. 76).
