Administrative / biographical background:

Canon Nightingale was born in 1903, ordained deacon in 1928 and priest in 1929. He was curate of St. Clement, Spotland, 1928-1930, Lecturer of Bolton parish church, 1930-1934, curate of St. Michael and All Angels, Lawton Moor, 1934-1937, vicar of the same, 1937-1942, vicar of Walmsley, 1942-1953 and finally vicar of Rochdale, 1953-1970. He was a Honorary Canon of Manchester Cathedral, 1956-1970.
