Custodial history:

As Joseph Sidebotham was a skilled photographer (and member of Manchester Photographic Society) he took a series of photographs showing the building of the church and rectory from the laying of the foundation stone to the completion of the church.

Administrative / biographical background:

St. Anne's was built at the expense of Joseph Sidebotham, F.R.A.S., of Erlesdene. The foundation stone was laid on 1 September 1880 and the church consecrated on 29 July 1882.

 

It was assigned a District from the parishes of Christ Church, Denton and St. George, Hyde, by Order in Council, 29 November 1881 (London Gazette, 9 September).
