Administrative / biographical background:

The association was founded in 1894 to represent the interests of local firms engaged in the weaving section of the cotton trade. On 28th December 1961, it changed its name to "Bolton and District Textile Manufacturers' Association". It was dissolved as a separate organisation on 30th June 1969 on amalgamation with Bolton and District Textile Employers' Association.
