Title: A.F.Primrose to Lawrence Bragg
Description:

Chipping Campden 12/3pp, typescript

Asks if Sir William Bragg was "a pioneer in international communication by means of sparking along a ray of light". In 1916 Sir William was head of a group of scientists attached to the Hawkcraig Experimental Station. He was officer-in-charge of searchlights on the Island of Inchcolm. Sir William asked if he would help with some experiments. Describes the searchlights and comments on experiments which were done on the transmission of sound by a light beam. Is enclosing copy of letter which Sir William sent him. Asks if these early experiments are in any way connected with the bouncing of messages off satellites. Bragg's parents were very kind to him. Met Sir William again in 1942-3 at a Conference on plans for the production of prestige scientific films.

With copy of letter from W.H.Bragg, Aberdour, to Primrose, 4 Dec. 1916; ¼p, typescript copy; W.L. BRAGG/52B/50. Thanks Primrose for his help and for his hospitality.
