Letters and papers of Arthur Foley Winnington-Ingram, Suffragan Bishop of Stepney and (1901) Bishop of London. They principally concern his appointment as Head of Oxford House, Bethnal Green, London, the offer of the vicarage of Portsea, and his appointment as Bishop of London. The volume also contains correspondence on the historical use of crosses and crucifixes, and on the question whether a bishop may marry. There are a few letters from leading naval and military commanders of the First World War, and (f.107) a letter from E. F. Benson on the composition of the Lincoln Judgment (1890) by Archbishop Edward White Benson, 1928. |
