Description:

Sermons and drafts of sermons by Edward Stillingfleet, Bishop of Worcester (1689), written in his own hand and preached between about 1674 and 1676. They include Lenten sermons preached at Court on 15 April 1674 and 16 April 1676, and a sermon preached at the funeral of Sir John Vaughan, Chief-Justice of the Common Pleas, on 22 December 1674. Other sermons and drafts are in shorthand.

Physical condition: Contemporary calf binding. A number of leaves have been removed, viz. between ff.3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 50-1, 84-5, 95-6, 101-2.
Immediate source of acquisition:

Sold at Sotheby's 17 December 1981 (lot 162) as the property of M.R.E. Stillingfleet, and purchased with the aid of the Friends of the National Libraries and the Friends of Lambeth Palace Library.

Inscribed, 'Given me by my niece E[dward] S. Stillingfleet 1795'.
