Details of
Title: SIR WILLIAM DARCY.
Description:

Petition of Sir William Darcy of Platen to Sir William Skeffington, Lord Deputy.

He is son and heir of John, son and heir of John, son and heir of William, son of John, son of William, son and heir of John Darcy "le Cossyn," and Dame Joan his wife. It was found by inquisition before the Barons of the Exchequer in Ireland, on the Tuesday before St. Luke the Evangelist, in the 23rd year of the King's reign, that King Edward IV. was seized of the manor of Rathwer, Meath, and had issue, Elizabeth, Katharine, Cicely, Ann, and Bridget, to whom the said manor descended; that King Henry VII. married the said Elizabeth, and entered upon the manor; that her sisters died during her lifetime, and she herself on 3 Feb. 18 Hen. VII.; that the manor descended to Henry VIII., but Sir William Darcy took possession of it on 1 July 1 Hen. VIII., and levied the rents and profits.

The truth is, that King Edw. III., by his letters patent of 20 April in his 14th year, granted to John Darcy "le Cossyn" and Joan his wife, the said manor of Rathwer, which Roger du Mortumary, Earl of March, rebel to Edw. III., had held of the grant of Edw. II., to whose hands it came by the forfeiture of Walter de Lacy and Almarice de Lacy, who had adhered to the Scots against the King. From the said John and Joan the manor has descended to the said William.

Prays the Deputy to command the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer to allow him to prove his title before them.
