Title: LONDON TITHES CASE
Description:

Returns by incumbents of London parishes by order of the Privy Council on 22 April 1638 requiring the clergy and principal inhabitants to estimate for each London parish the moderate rental of each house and to state the actual amount of tithes and other income. There are no returns for the following parishes: St. Alphage, St. Anne Blackfriars, St. Bennet Paul's Wharf, St. Catherine Cree, St. Mary Aldermanbury, St. Michael Wood Street, St. Peter-le-Poer, St. Sepulchre Holborn, St. Stephen Coleman Street, and St. Swithin. The returns appear to have been submitted to Samuel Baker, domestic chaplain to William Juxon, Bishop of London (f.332v). They are printed without details of tithes in T.C. Dale, The inhabitants of London in 1638, 1931. Other papers concerning the London tithe case are MS.273 and C.M.VIII-IX.
