Administrative / biographical background:

Robert Pringle, described as pewterer, was based at 65 Brick Lane, Spitalfields. The business was concerned with the supply of equipment to public houses in London, including the pipes and equipment for pumping beer. The two later volumes of accounts have indexes by public house or hotel and by customer's name and all three are in the form of ledgers, with account by customer's name and rough address. Some houses have no full address. Pringles were servicing pubs in central, north and east London, including houses in Hackney. The business had moved to Bishopsgate by 1930, and was still listed in the London Post Office directory of 1937, but was no longer listed in 1938.
