Administrative history:
The Battersea and Wandsworth and Putney Committees of the F.W.A. were amalgamated in October-November 1949 to form Area 9. In 1953 it was renamed Area 5 after the original Area 5 (Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Hackney and Stoke Newington) had been amalgamated with Area 4.
