The Annual Reports have been deposited in the Greater London Record Office (see Class B of this List). The other series of C.O.S. publications have been deposited in the Library of the National Institute for Social Work Training, Mary Ward House, Tavistock Place, London, WC1. The remainder of the C.O.S. Library has been deposited in the Goldsmiths' Library, University of London Library. This includes copies of many of the Special Reports published by the C.O.S. Copies of many special reports, memoranda, papers read at Council meetings, Charity Organisation Papers and C.O.S. Occasional Papers are contained in the minute books of the Council and Administrative Committee from about 1888 onwards.

Administrative / biographical background:

The C.O.S. was very active in publishing. Besides the Annual Reports of the Council and district committees, it published a series of periodicals, the Charity Organisation Reporter 1872-1884, the Charity Organisation Review from 1885, the Charity Organisation Quarterly and Social Work. From 1882 it published the Annual Charities Register and Digest. The introduction How to Help Cases of Distress first appeared separately in 1883 and has continued as The Prevention and Relief of Distress and more recently as Guide to the Social Services. The C.O.S. also published a series of Charity Organisation Papers and four series of C.O.S. Occasional Papers.
