Tss memoirs (100pp), written in 1973, covering his service as Chief of Staff to the C-in-C Mediterranean (February 1939 - March 1941); as C-in-C South Atlantic (September 1941 - February 1942); as second-in-command of the Eastern Fleet (March 1942 - February 1943); as Flag Officer commanding Force H in the Mediterranean (March - September 1943); as C-in-C Levant (October 1943 - January 1944) and as Second Sea Lord (1944 - 45). His memoirs include assessments of Admirals of the Fleet Sir Dudley Pound, Viscount Cunningham and Sir James Somerville and numerous references to failings in inter-service cooperation and the selection of priorities in the allocation of material resources, and there is a separate ts paper (10pp), written in 1966, about Churchill's influence on the war at sea.
