The volumes contain brief nominal rolls and detailed muster rolls and casualty rolls of the NCOs and privates of the various companies and regiments of the European section of the Madras Army. Some officers are included in the rolls for 1762 and 1765. Arrangement by regiment appears from 1798, and there are regular casualty rolls from 1772. The rolls were compiled either in the Madras Military Department or at the individual unit headquarters and they were then forwarded to East India House. |
