Explaining how he has overspent his allowance - in treating the other officers to suppers etc. Never plays [cards] for money as he sees its ruinous consequences in [John Evelyn Pierrepont Dormer]. If Dormer resigns he [G.T.] will be 3rd Captain and get the Grenadiers. 1st Surrey Regiment encamped on the heights on the opposite side of town. Pleased to hear of his mother's improvement in health.
