Description:

J. [Matha] to FFT, Husbands Bosworth

Thanks him for his goodness to him. Has arrived in Hamburg - a very commercial town where the sole pursuit is of money. The inhabitants spend Sunday in the countryside where there are many inns whose wine and food they enjoy, sometimes smoking to impress the ladies. Likes German music. Is not well, and what is money without health? Mr. Grimes has sent him 10 gns. via Mr. Homer. People returning to France and leaving good houses in Hambourg. He wishes to go to England. Uncertain political state of France. Has been offered permission to hunt but too weak to do so.
