Charles Brown Mostyn, Lyons France to F.F.T., Bosworth

 

Was in Paris 20th Oct. Only stayed long enough to rest his horse as it was not a safe place to be in. Everybody, even beggars, armed with sword, gun or pistols. Number of robbers increases as servants etc., lose their jobs. Dares not go out of his garden because of the pitiable beggars who crowd the streets. Deplores that the rich clergy do not apply their funds to relieve the poor and find them work. Describes his eldest daughter Catherine, (by his first wife) aged 14 and the health of little Eliza the baby. People of Aix have just hung and beheaded three principal citizens without form or trial.
