When the company's founder Sir Henry Royce died in 1933, Royce Ltd. of Trafford Park came on to the market and was acquired by H. Morris Ltd. Although a distinguished crane-making business, it had become unprofitable in the 1920's and was kept afloat by Royce's other business interests.
