A Thomas Clarke, engineer and machinist, had premises in Wharf Street, Leicester in 1849, and in 1854 and 1855, Thomas Alfred William Clarke of the same trade is recorded at 57, Humberstone Gate. Premises in Havelock Street are first mentioned in 1867, and by 1876 the firm was established at the Havelock Works, where the present owner, Mr.T.A.W. Clarke, was in business until 1964.
