In 1896 the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway wished to buy land from George W Heywood esq of Southport and later Failsworth for widening the railway at Entwistle Station. After some protracted negotiations with the owner, this was finally agreed and the railway made various improvement works to compensate the two tenant farmers. Heywood also agreed an easement with the Black Hill Brick and Terra Cotta Co Ltd for a tramway linking the new brickworks near Broadmeadow Farm with the station and also a cartroad nearby which apparently was not built |
