Title: Records of J Birchall and Son, (Tailors) of 74 Bank Street, Maidstone
Description:

J. Birchall & Son was established in 1897 by J. Birchall (of a tailoring family) and was passed on to his son J.W.H. Birchall (depositor).

Customers came from Maidstone and its environs and included some prominent members of the community. Behind the shop was a gentlemen's hairdresser and a promotional poster for the 'Toilet Saloon' is included in this collection.

Whilst not all the records have survived, the business is fairly well documented in the 1930's. Some of the diary entries are quite entertaining.
