VESTRY AND P.C.C
p408/8 [n.d.]
Administrative history:
Yalding Vestry was extremely active and had several committees. The largest of these was the Workhouse Committee or Committee for the Relief of the Poor which itself was known as the Vestry. This dealt with casual relief, later with the administration of the poor house, and in 1795 for the administration of the workhouse built in that year on School House Green for £250.

Vestry and account book
This volume continues from those above down to 1835. The workhouse was sold in 1836 and from then on the book was used to record the Vestry meetings, the Committee for Poor Relief which worked in association with the Board of Guardians, and the Voluntary and River Committee formed in 1830 for the alteration of the course of the river in Yalding to ease flooding damage. Out of work poor ware frequently set to work on this scheme which provided a source of work in the parish for many years. The book includes also the minutes of the Emigration Committee and a list of the persons who emigrated to Sydney at the expense of the parish and general vestry matters such as the new bridge near Hunton mill, Churchyard extension, the New Schools at Yalding and Collier Street and the building of St. Margaret's church, Collier St. in 1847. It also contains Highway Surveyors' Minutes 1835-1837 at the back
