Administrative / biographical background:

The original church of Ide Hill was established in 1807 within the ancient parish of Sundridge. Bishop Porteus founded this church and was present at its consecration on 12th June 1807, as well as endowing the church with a sum of money in his will to maintain it and its minister.

In 1852, Ide Hill was formed into a separate ecclesiastical parish from parts of the parishes of Sundridge, Chevening and Chiddingstone. The present church, dedicated to St Mary the Virgin was consecrated in 1865.

In 1973, the parish of Ide Hill was abolished and the parish was again combined with Sundridge to create Sundridge with Ide Hill Ecclesiastical Parish.
