By 1872 Methodists in Abbots Langley were meeting together for worship in members' houses. A parcel of land with a shed overlooking Kitters Green was purchased in 1878. The shed was used for worship until 1881 when a permanent church was erected. At this period Abbots Langley formed part of the St Albans circuit (see NM5). In 1886 it was transferred to the newly formed Hemel Hempstead circuit (see NM3). The church was transferred to the Watford circuit in 1904. It was extensively renovated in 1962
