Title: Records of the Barkway Excelsior Friendly Society
Description:

The annual financial statements show three separate funds, sick and funeral, management and expenses and "surplus"; it has not been possible completely to arrange the financial documents in this collection in such a way as to correspond with these funds, because the business of more than one fund is often represented in the same volume and because 'state' insurance business is also recorded.

Introduction

The Barkway Excelsior Friendly Society apparently began life in 1876 as a branch of the Ancient Order of Foresters, becoming independent of the parent society, though retaining some of its organisation and ritual, in 1889, when the Barkway society's rules were first printed.

The society was dissolved in 1957.
