Title: Papers of Gordon Moodey 1935-1978
Description:

Gordon Moodey, MBE, FSA, of 27 West Street, Hertford, was Honorary Secretary of the East Hertfordshire Archaeological Society for 27 years, and a well-known authority on old buildings in the county. This collection consists mainly of his notes, sketches and other papers concerning buildings in Hertfordshire. Some of the papers no doubt relate to work carried out for the East Herts Archaeological Society, the County Council's Planning Department, the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments and the Herts Building Preservation Trust, but it would be almost impossible to distinguish them from each other and from his personal work: no attempt has therefore been made to sort them into categories, except in a few cases where this could be done easily (numbers 52-56, 58).

The large drawings have been left in their original rolls and folders and cross-referenced to the main topographical section of the papers. The rest of the papers are arranged either by subject or alphabetically by parish, in their original folders. Cross-referencing has been carried out where necessary.
