Marriage Settlement.

 

1. Thomas Prosser of Snowdle, Peterchurch, gent, Phillip Prosser of the same, widow, his mother, Robert Prosser of Hereford, mercer, and Anne Prosser of Snowdle, spinster, youngest brother and sister of Thomas. Thomas Bullock of Arxton, Kingston, and Elizabeth his wife, another sister of the said Thomas.

 

2. Mary Griffith of Craswall, in Clodocke, spinster.

 

3. John Watkins of the Oatley, Peterchurch, gent, and Thomas Prosser of Trenant, tanner.

 

4. William Rogers of Craswall, gent, and Joseph Exton of Michaelchurch Escley, gent.

 

Consideration of the marriage to be had between Thomas Prosser and Mary Griffith she being sised in fee of all those two messuages in Craswall in Clodocke, one now in the tenure of William Exton and the other in the tenure of John Thomas. That in the tenure of William Exton has been sold to him, so that the sum of £445 has been raised for the discharging of debts now charged on the manor, messuages etc. of the said Thomas Prosser. The other messuages in tenure of John Thomas has been conveyed by lease and release. The release of even date with the settlement, to the end that a competent jointure in lieu thereof may be settled upon Mary Griffith, and the lands settled in jointure be free of the charge of £300 formerly by John Prosser, father of Thomas settled as a provision for Robert Prosser and Ann Prosser and Francis Prosser since decd., and that this may be charged on the lands mentioned below.

 

Now: the first parties convey to the second parties. The manor of Snowdle, the Castle of Snowdle and messuages and lands - viz. the capital messuage in which Thomas Prosser and Philip Prosser live, messuage in this tenure in which Henry Phelpotts gent sometimes formerly lived, messuages sometimes formerly in the occupation of Roger David, Michael Thomas, Mabell James, John James, and Margaret Miles, and lands - viz. a close called the Whiterne Tree Close 4 acres a close called the Old Orchard 2½ acres the close called the Birches 6 acres a parcel of woodland and pasture called the Orles 20 acres abutting to the lands of Mrs. Elizabeth Awbrey on the south and west, a parcel of arable 20 acres also abutting on the lands of Mrs. Elizabeth Awbrey, on the south and west, a parcel of land called the six acres adjoining to the Crabtree meadow on the west, the parcel of land 4½ acres in the piece of ground called the Seaven Acres abutting also on the lands of Elizabeth Awbrey on the west: one other parcel of land called Hollybush Close 7 acres one parcel of pasture of meadow called the New Tineings 18 acres abutting on the west to a close of pasture now in the occupation of Clement Williams called Portawen and to the lane leading from Snowdle to Dorston on the north, one parcel (about ¾ acres) adjoining on the north and east to the lands of Stephen Gannell: one piece of meadow called Long Plocks 1 acre adjoining on the north to the lands of Nathan Gilbert gent, all those parcels of lands under the Castle of Snowdle 17 acres and 3 parcels of meadow abutting to the lands of Herbert Awbrey, esq., on the north and lying on the west side of the way from Snowdle to Bredwardine: the Stoneyfield meadow 4 acres the Little Stony Field 5 acres the Great Stony Field 11 acres the Pool Close 10 acres a meadow called Ponvavalon 4 acres the Gattimore Leasow 7 acres Hancocks Leasow 5 acres the OxeLeasow 4 acres the White Leasow pasture 9 acres a parcel called the Plassedge 10 acres the soure plocke 7 acres the three Plocks 2½ acres ten acres in the meadow called the Common Meadow or great meadow, one parcel called the Bedlow pierce 6 acres all those pasture of wood and pasture called the Ould Hill, a parcel of sheep pasture called the Eight Acres, a meadow called Birds Meadow adjoining to the lands of William Hall, Esq3 on the west and north and to the river of Doyre on the south 2½ acres: 1½ acres meadow within the meadow of Herbert Awbrey esq., called the Mill Meadow and the parcel of land called the Little Lleland adjoining to the way leading from Snowdle to Bredwardine.

 

Also messuages and lands etc. called the Pitt at the Pitt Farm and Brampton lands now in the tenure of Clement Williams, in Dorston and all those several parcels of land used with it:-

 

To hold to uses as follows:-

 

Manor, Castle, capital mess. and lands, to use of Prosser, wife and heirs.

 

Property in Dorstone and Peterchurch to Phillipp Prosser for life, then to Thomas, Mary and heirs.

 

Property called the Rhidins in Peterchurch and Michaelchurch Eskley to Thomas for 4 years or until death of Phillipp, then to Robert and Anne, subject to redemption on payment of £150 each to Robert and Ann.
