The firm was established by William Sisson in 1889 when he took over the small marine engineering works of J.J. Seekings & Co., situated near the Docks. The business became a limited liability company in 1904 and new works were built at Barnwood. W. Sisson & Co. Ltd., specialized in the design and devolopment of high speed launch and marine engines and boilers and also designed vessels of all types, used initally on the Thames, Severn and Lake Windermere. William Sisson had a strong interest in technical education, and the firm also became known for designing engineering equipment for educational purposes Before coming to Gloucester, J.J. Seekings had been a partner with G.E. Belliss, founder of the firm of Belliss and Morcom Ltd., Birmingham. After the second World War Belliss & Morcom Ltd., began to take a financial interest in Sisson's and in 1958 acquired full control of the company, which became part of the "B & M group" |
