According to Kelly's Directories of Essex , 1878-1937, the South Hinckford Petty Sessional Division (Braintree Bench) comprised the following parishes for this period: Braintree, Bocking, Felsted, Black Notley, Panfield, Rayne, Great Saling, Shalford, Stisted and Wethersfield. Gosfield was also part of this division until c.1886-1890, when it was transferred to the South Hinckford Division (Halstead Bench) later to be part of the new Halstead Division, created in 1905.

For much of the 19th and early 20th centuries the records of the South Hinckford Division (Braintree Bench) appear to be written in the same hand and format as those for the Freshwell Division, with the same clerk to the justices acting for both divisions. Occasionally the licensing and financial records were kept jointly and several of the records of the South Hinckford Division (Braintree Bench) contain entries for Freshwell (see P/H L1, P/H F3,4,7, P/H Z4,5,)

From 1 January 1955 the South Hinckford Division (Braintree Bench) was combined with the Freshwell Division to form the Freshwell and South Hinckford Division (P/Fh - no records yet deposited). The last court register for the South Hinckford Division (Braintree Bench) contains entries for the new combined division for 1955 (see P/H R7).
