According to Kelly's Directories of Essex , 1878-1937 the Dengie Petty Sessional Division comprised the following parishes for this period: Althorne, Asheldham, Bradwell-juxta-Mare, Burnham, Cold Norton, Creeksea, Dengie, North Fambridge, Hazeleigh, Latchingdon, Maryland, Mundon, Purleigh, St. Lawrence, Southminster, Steeple, Stow Maries, Tillingham, Woodham Mortimer and Woodham Walter.

Langford appears to have been in this division for part of this time. It is listed under the Witham Division from 1878 up to 1902. From 1906-1937, although still listed as part of the Witham Division under the Langford Parish description, it is included in the list of parishes in the Dengie Division in the entry for Maldon. Similarly Heybridge is listed as part of the Dengie Division, 1878-1882, part of the Witham Division, 1886-1902, listed under both Witham and Dengie, 1906-1914, and as part of the Dengie Division, 1917-1933. In 1934 the civil parish of Heybridge was abolished. The greater part of the parish was transferred to the Borough of Maldon (see P/M) and the remainder to the parish of Great Totham (see P/W). In view of the confusion and changes of division for Langford and Heybridge it is probably advisable to consult both Dengie and Witham petty sessional records for those two parishes.
