Administrative / biographical background:

The Eastlake family of Plymouth bought the property in 1809 and a house was built around 1820 called St. Mary's Hill. The estate was sold to Cecil Edward Bewes of Beaumont House, Plymouth in 1858. A plan was prepared showing the extent of this estate including Bridge tenement, Marchants tenement, Steers Park, and St. Mary's Hill.
