Agreements and crew lists (with statutory log books where they survive), 1863-1913, kept by the Registrar General of Shipping and Seamen and its predecessor, relating to ships registered in Devon at the ports of Barnstaple, Bideford, Brixham, Dartmouth, Exeter, Plymouth, Salcombe and Teignmouth.

Elsewhere, the holdings are as follows: all records from 1835-1860 are in Series BT 98 at the Public Record Office together with records of certain famous vessels and a ten percent sample of the records for the years 1861-1938, 1951-1979 and 1980-1990 (for more information on these see the Public Record Office's on-line catalogue); the National Maritime Museum has all the remaining records for 1861 and 1862 and for years ending in the number 5 between 1865-1938, 1951-1976; what is left (apart from the records in the Devon Record Office), covering the period 1863-1938, 1957-1990, is in the Maritime History Research Unit in the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Similar collections of these records to those held in the Devon Record Office can be found, for ships registered within their own areas, in other local record offices and libraries.
