D SHEFF 1. Hodgson estate in Burgh by Sands, descended to George Hewit of Carlisle by marriage to Mary Hodgson grand-daughter of William Hodgson of the Fauld 'upwards of 200 years before Queen Elizabeth' possessors of their freehold and customary estate in Burgh by Sands.

 

D SHEFF 2. Hewit estate in Beaumont originating in purchases by George Hewit of Rockcliffe from John Hodgson of Beaumont in 1647.

 

D SHEFF 3. Harker Lodge estate, purchased by Richard Ferguson of Carlisle, merchant 1807-1820 and descended to George Henry Hewit who assumed the names Oliphant Ferguson on succeeding his uncle Richard Ferguson.

 

D SHEFF 4. Oliphant of Bradfield House estate bought by Lancelot Oliphant of Itonfield 1793 descended to cousin George Henry Hewit on death of Henry Oliphant in 1843.

 

D SHEFF 5. Robinson estate in Longburgh, parish of Burgh by Sands descended to George Hewit of Carlisle on death of John Robinson, 1801.

 

D SHEFF 6. Ferguson estate at Knowfield, Stanwix purchased by Richard Ferguson of Harker Lodge in 1847 and descended to George Henry Hewit as in D SHEFF 3 above.

 

D SHEFF 7. Various estates: Oliphant estate, Hay Close, Hesket in the Forest

 

Hodgson estate in Carlisle and environs descending to William Giles of Carlisle esq. (Margaret daughter of William and Jane Giles married Richard Ferguson of Harker Lodge).

 

Hewson estate in Kirkbampton.
