Appeal by Stithians against order of 5 Sept. 1798 for the removal of Mary (11), Susanna (10) and Martha (9), children of Francis Jenkin and wife Mary, both deceased, from St Gluvias to Stithians: order confirmed; Stithians to pay St Gluvias costs.

 

Charles Reed of Bodmin, cabinet-maker and William Reynolds of Bodmin, labourer, took the oaths for protestant dissenting ministers.

John Davey, master, and John Williams, mate, both of the sloop Nancy of Fowey, swore that, on 17 July 1798, they shipped at Plymouth 162 bushels of British fishery salt, bound for Thomas Raby of Fowey, fish-curer; after arrival, the sloop accidentally fell on her side and sprung a leak, starting some of her trunnels [probably large oval shallow tubs], causing a loss of 15 bushels; the loss not being due to defect in the sloop or negligence by the crew.

 

John Roberts, master, and Merrick Williams, mate, both of the brigantine True Briton of Carnarvon, swore that, on 28 Aug. 1798, they shipped at Liverpool 5,031 bushels of British fishery-salt, bound for Thomas Were Fox of Falmouth, fish-curer; on the voyage, stormy weather caused the loss of 169 bushels, not due to defect in the vessel of negligence by the crew.

Samuel Garmon, master, and Thomas Hyde, mate, both of the brigantine Enterprize of Ipswich, swore that, on 31 Aug. 1798, they shipped from Liverpool 5,600 bushels of British fishery-salt, bound for Messrs George Croker Fox and Sons of Falmouth, merchants and fish-curers; on the voyage, stormy weather caused 212 bushels to be lost, not due to defect in the vessel or negligence of the crew.

 

William Pascoe, master, and Robert Richards, mate, both of the sloop James and Elizabeth of Falmouth, swore that, on 18 Aug. 1798, they shipped at Falmouth 1,065 bushels of British fishery salt, bound for Messrs George Croker Fox and Sons at Fowey, fish-curers; on the voyage, stormy weather caused the loss of 90 bushels, not due to defect in the vessel or negligence of the crew.

Hugh Retallack, mate, and William Pascoe, mariner, both of the sloop Endeavour of Falmouth, swore that on [blank] they shipped at [blank] 1,410 bushels of British fishery-salt, bound for George Croker Fox and Sons at Gorran Haven in the port of Fowey, merchants and fish-curers; on the voyage, stormy weather caused the loss of 33 bushels, not due to defect in the vessel or negligence of the crew.

 

Griffith Griffiths, master, and Robert Roberts, mate, both of the sloop Helen of Barmouth, swore that, on 8 Sept. 1798, they shipped at [blank] 400 bushels of British fishery-salt, bound for John Batten at Newlyn in the port of Penzance, merchant and fish-curer; on the voyage, stormy weather caused the loss of 80 bushels, not due to defect in the vessel or negligence of the crew.

William Williams, master, and Hugh Williams, mate, both of the sloop Sydney of Porthelly, swore that, on 12 May 1797, they shipped at Liverpool 2,400 bushels of British fishery-salt, bound for Thomas Were Fox at Mousehole in the port of Penzance, merchant and fish-curer; on the voyage, stormy weather caused the loss of 134 bushels, not due to defect in the vessel or negligence of the crew.
